TOKYO - Unicharm has launched a limited edition sanitary pad made from bio-based materials, part of the hygiene company's commitment to World Environment Day.
Available in its Indonesian market through its Charm brand, the surface sheet of the pad uses a blend of raw materials processed from pressed sugarcane, limestone, botanical oils and natural resins.
"Our sanitary napkin brand Charm has been launching a limited-time product on the World Environment Day for three consecutive years since 2021," said
Unicharm Indonesia president Yuji Ishii. "Charm Herbal Ansept+ Bio, which was launched in 2022, contains bio-materials derived from sugarcane, aiming to reduce the use of petroleum-derived raw materials.
"This year, we have been making repeated trial and error efforts to further reduce the amount of petroleum-derived raw materials. As a result, we were able to launch Charm Daun Sirih + Herbal Bio, which contains materials such as limestone, botanical oil, and natural resins, in addition to sugarcane. "
As well as the surface sheet, biomaterials were also used for the back sheet of the sanitary pad, individual packaging and outer packaging.
"While being environmentally friendly, the product maintains the same absorbency and deodorizing power as the conventional Charm Daun Sirih + Herbal in terms of functionality, so it can be used with peace of mind," added Ishii.
